Real Cyborgs

http://s.telegraph.co.uk/graphics/projects/the-future-is-android/index.html

So, the concept is that these folks are cyborgs, embedding technology into their bodies to allow for robotic arms to move, and doors to open in their home.

WIRED: Sits up and notices DIY Robotics from China

I have been purchasing DIY robotics parts from China (particularly Shenzen) for a few months now. It was inevitable that one of these products would go mainstream, and predictably on Kickstarter. What was not that predictable was WIRED magazine picking up the story.

2014 is the year of DIY... and the manufactures in the USA and in China should sit up and take notice... the dollars in this market are not casual. Folks like myself have plenty of discretionary income, and we want robots. Congratulations to the folks a uArm....

Pats Musings

Life really does begin at 40, until then you are only doing research. - Carl Jung

Speaking of Research, how about things coming out of Disney Research

Haptic Feedback in freespace, nifty stuff indeed.

Almost as cool as this one Texture Feedback on Touch Surfaces

That's all for now.

Custom Robotics from AndyMark

Looks like some of the local high schools (Woodrow Wilson and Poly) use a educational robotics provider, AndyMark. They have completed some interesting custom builds:

Awesome Robot Articles Index

Very Nerdy!

All about SERVOS

OK Folks....

The problem with Robot servos is that they are not simple things... nor are they cheap. I have ordered a few dozen TOWER MG996R servos, but they pale in comparison to the DYNAMIXEL servos found here: http://support.robotis.com/en/

Yopu can make robots with the cheaper (but still much better than standard servos) TOWER MG996R servos, like this one here, but the results are known to be less than precise.

The problem with the DYNAMIXEL servos is that they run around $45 at the very cheapest. OUCH.

An excellent analysis (a summing up if you will) of the servos in comparison to each other can be found here. Good old Trossen Robotics.

Ok, so a friend (Thanks Tom) mentioned that he wanted to know about more (or wanted me to know more) about linking up the Arduino with iPhone control, and etc....
